Some of my friends came over to my house on my last night. They ended up just fighting over all the shit I wasn’t bringing with me. For one particular work shirt, a Ticketek Box Office modelling competition ensued.
Twenty-six hours flies by when you have plane wifi. The movies were good and the stopovers in Singapore and Dubai were nice. Not much worth talking about when it’s just sitting down. Mum sure looks happy to see me leave in the first photo.
London in one word, overwhelming. It’s vast and cold. Really cold. I didn’t realise when Lucy Pevensie entered the wardrobe she was just entering a different part of the country in London. Everyone at my hostel (Generator) keeps saying this is warm/Summer for them. This disgusts me. On that, the hostel is amazing. The vibe is dope. Generator London in one word? Cool. ‘Hip’ also works. Though, after 27 hours in transit and a lackluster attempt at socialising I decided I’d rather get in bed. I am now friends with the Oakland University Brass Band. Apparently they’re a big deal.
Can’t do wrong with Tee and Chi. - D. Lam
I pretty much only got to spend one whole day exploring. London is a weird place. It really is something special. A continuous mixture of the modern and historic. Starbucks and BK look richer in historic value than most of the buildings back home. The British also have an obsession with displaying signs behind glass. The Underground is amazing, I got annoyed when I had to wait five minutes for a train during peak hour. Staying right next to King’s Cross, I managed to cram a lot of touristy things in. I walked from Westminster Abbey to the Tower Bridge and pretty much timed it perfectly so the sun set just as I was crossing the bridge. Amazing. Built along the river, South Bank, bridges galore. Brisbane should sue whoever designed London.
I took a lot of pictures in London. It was pretty hard to narrow it down to about forty. Here’s more.
As long as you’re not in Charlotte Court you’ll be fine - L. Wigham
So it’s been three days since I moved into Charlotte Court student halls and so far I’m actually loving it. My flatmates and the location are great. I was especially nervous about the flatmate deal but it’s worked out perfectly so far. Sheffield is really my kind of city, the weather especially is a really nice change from home. Everyone hates the wind and the cold but so far it hasn’t bothered me. It’s actually sort of fun battling it.
Probably my biggest problem I’ve had so far is the size of my bed. The accommodation centre told me I was going to have a double bed so my lovely mum went out and bought me sheets for it. It’s actually a king-size bed so those sheets don’t fit. Pity. Since I know I haven’t any shortage of time here in Sheff, I haven’t really bothered to take any photos of it yet. Not sure if I’m bias or not but I’ve really taken to this city.
I am at a house party in Leeds. Really? Leeds Leeds Leeds? Pretty much all I’ve heard for as long as I can remember. Since it’s been built up so much over the last two years I didn’t know what to expect, I was prepared to be both overwhelmed or underwhelmed. I was whelmed. I did miss some people though.

It snowed and that was very exciting. I was tasting snow until it seeped through, wrecked my loafers and froze my toes. Katie and Molly had a good laugh about that. On the bright side, they took me to buy some dope new (hopefully waterproof) River Island boots. Leeds is actually just a normal city, not the mythical miracle party city I’ve been informed. I wasn’t here long enough to make a final decision. Reminds me a bit of Melbourne though. Shopping is great. People are sweet, it was great to see people again. Nice buildings. It’s a fun place. I even saw a Quidditch game at the park. I’m very glad I ended up in Sheffield though.
I start study tomorrow so there probably won’t be anything interesting to post for a while. I’m hoping to get Euro travelling ASAP.
